Find resources to ensure that important details are considered when developing agreements or confirming research proceedings with community partners. If your research involves community partners, look first to any guidelines they may have. If a documented agreement is the preferred protocol, ideally it will not be so detailed as to require frequent updates. Keep in mind that the key elements of your study may need to be revisited as the research progresses. Discussions with partners may need to include:
- Roles and Responsibilities, commitments of all parties
- How decisions will be made
- How data will be stored, shared and used in future
Your ethics application will ask for information (where applicable) about whether agreement with community partners is required and in what form the agreement will be confirmed. If a research agreement document is developed, it will need to be attached to your ethics application before full approval is issued. If your research does not require agreement, provide a brief explanation in the application (Section G).
